Max Staebler is an out, gay young men who has garnered some really good local press in Florida. The 16-year old Southeast High School student has been selected to serve on the Youth Advisory Council of the Trevor Project.
What is so fabulous, besides Max, is the reporting, which takes the tone of “local kid does good.” The story is highly favorable, not only mentioning Staebler’s stellar academic and leadership accomplishments, but it also details his efforts to establish a GSA at his high school. Additionally, what the reporting does NOT do is include an “opposing” point of view of some homophobic divine ranting on and on that Max will recruit unsuspecting Christian youth to blah, blah, blah…..Well, you know the drill.
So, please check out the story of a local queer kid doing very, very good. In a Fall filled with endless stories of queer youth suicide, this story will warm your heart.
